Cherry Garden Dim Sum

A couple of weekends ago, we tried the dim sum buffet at Cherry Garden. Pricey, but yum! The char siew was divine, and the service impeccable. Since it’s made to order, everything’s warm and fresh. The skin has not had time to harden (common problem if you were to make a huge batch and leave it standing, while waiting for customers to order), and there are all paper-thin, delicately wrapped around the fillings.

The presentation was charming too. Thought the plates were exquisite, and the desserts came in these small bowls that sat over a cauldron of fuming dry ice.

Paying $45/pax is steep, but the menu is big enough for you to leave the place, feeling satiated.

Taxidermia

Caught this Hungarian film at the Picturehouse this afternoon.

Three tales, of three generations of men in Hungary. The grandfather who shoots fire out from his penis, the father who excels in speed eating competitions, and the son who embalms dead animals.

Three seemingly disparate characters take us through a whirlwind tour of Hungarian history in the 20th century. Yet there are many parallels to be drawn.

This just struck me: these three characters all want to be loved, and feel love. But life disappoints.

There are some disturbing scenes, and definitely warranted the R21 classification. However, it did provoke some thoughts, and any movie that is capable of achieving this, is worthy to be seen on the big screen.
